HOMEWORK
Video Game Project - Street Fighter
- Research your game (play it, watch it)
- Sketch 9 pages of 3 different styles of your choosing (per person)
- Decide what 3 characters you want to design (you can change it when we meet again)
- When deciding on the character, think about:
- Body Type (big, medium, small)
- Fighting Style/Combat (close, range, tank, quick, etc)
- Your three characters should at the very least have 3 distinct body types
Think about what themes you want to do
- Research it
- Bring in the research as well
- Themes could be an overall theme (ie, Underwater theme) and or, it could be a VS type (ie, Zombies vs the living)
TIPS
- Explore a range of styles
- Keep in mind shapes of characters, how they move, and what is their combat style
- Themes should be something everyone on the time wants to do
- Everyone should be enthusiastic about the theme, voice your opinion if you're not
- Think primarily about the combat/mechanics of the charater
- If the character is suppose to be a fast attacking, their body and design should reflect that
- Worry not about the lore behind the character or their current design
- Your version of Chun Li does not have to have buns for hair and be from China
POST MORTEM (Animation Project)
Good
- Staying connected (messenger, google hangout, etc)
- Good scheduling
- Sharing work with everyone (visibility in work)
Bad
- Not setting deadlines
- Changing design/style detail midway through the process
- Too Democratic - Group Leader needs to be more decisive in decision making
- Setting up time limit on decisions
- Forget it's a team effort (too focus on personal needs) - stay focus to the plan (bigger picture)
- Staying on task - make sure everyone is aware of each other's work and how it's tracking
New
- More in person meet-ups
- Coming to the meeting with a plan/agenda
GENERAL NOTES
Shape Language
- Square = Stable, Tough, Strength
- Circle = Friendly, Nice, Huggable
- Triangle = Threaten, Sharp, Fast
- Eye design describes a character's personality (most revealing in a design)
- Outside shape gives in the initial first impression of a person
- Inside details give you the next layer of character traits
